Alton Towers Resort has revolutionised their coach driver experience by unveiling an exclusive lounge for coach drivers to relax and unwind during their visit to the Resort. The Merlin wide initiative to provide exceptional experiences to all guests, including coach drivers, sees Alton Towers Resort as the first of its UK theme parks to offer this exclusive service.

The lounge, situated adjacent to the coach park, gives coach drivers a place to unwind in a warm and comfortable environment and chat to fellow drivers. There are microwaving facilities in the kitchen area plus large tables and breakfast bar seats which give drivers a place to eat their lunch, whether it is bought from home or on site. TV screens feature throughout the lounge with comfortable sofas and plug sockets, ideal for charging laptops or mobile phones, and free WiFi is also available. The lounge is complete with both male and female toilets and showers should drivers wish to freshen up after a long journey.

Tom Bainbridge from National Holidays said, “It’s ideal for the winter months or for when the weather is bad outside. It’s great to have a place to come and spend some time, watch TV and relax. The seating area provides a comfortable place to eat food. Spot on!’

Alton Towers Resort has welcomed coach drivers to the Resort for over 50 years and sees approximately 7,000 coaches through their gates each year. The Coach Driver’s lounge joins a line-up of existing benefits for drivers including free park entrance tickets, discounted meals in selected locations and free coach park within steps of the resort’s entrance. Charlotte Castille, Trade Marketing and Customer Insight Manager said, “We recognise the value of travel trade and The Coach Driver Lounge is our way of saying thank you to the coach driving community. We hope it will be enjoyed by drivers from all over the UK”

The Coach Driver Lounge is now open and ready for visitors. If you would like more information regarding trips to Alton Towers Resort or any Merlin attractions, please email
